In Memoriam for Dr. Tony Anunwa
Dr. Tony Anunwa (of blessed memory) was my school mate at St. Teresa's College (STC), Nsukka
Nigeria. In school, I was ahead of him. Usually Juniors are more knowledgeable about Seniors
than the other way round. But when we got together again in the USA and he became the Vice
President of our old boys' association (STOBA-USA), I got to know him better than during our
secondary school years. Yes, as the president of our old boys association, I worked very closely
with late Dr. Anunwa. His mien during our zoom meetings exuded exemplary equanimity that tended to singularly repose in him the aura of the proverbial adult in the room. His patience was phenomenal and like the application of an emotional calming balm, helps to settle every body down no matter the level of hulla-balloo or cacophony threatening to overwhelm our meeting. In the same vein, enough could not be said about his zeal for anything STC. He went out of his way to leave no stone unturned to recruit new members into our USA secondary school old boys' community. Most notably also, he was impressively ultra generous in Philanthropic scenarios. Thus his love for lending a helping hand to the less fortunate eg the bereaved, or donating to STC causes like building and computer lab projects, was exemplary and epitomized selflessness and almost inimitable yearning to give back!
Our dear Tony, leaving us during the pre-christmas season, dealt us a very difficult-to-absorb below the belt blow! And so, even though he left behind very big shoes in our organization that are so far very hard to fill, we shiver with grave concern about how his nuclear family and close loved ones, could endure his totally unexpected demise. It is hoped that they are able to successfully source the wherewithal to bear the irreplaceable loss. May his kind and generous soul rest in perfect peace.
